Partial translation patch for Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro na
It's been two and a half years since the day I was asked, by a translator, if I had any eroge in mind that I wanted to see translated. Usually, it's the other way around. But after our mildly successful collaboration on Canvas 2, the first visual novel translation project I worked on, Edger was feeling motivated to translate something else, only with a few things to consider:
- It had to be nothing too difficult in terms of translation
- He'd rather work on something that didn't have a project up already
- He'd prefer something that was made within this decade
- I had to handle all the technical jobs
It was a good deal, so I took it. But all I could think of was some anime adaptations I'd watched so far: Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Myself;Yourself, Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de, Lamune, Yoake Mae Yori Ruri Iro na... After giving it some thought and doing a little bit of research, we settled with the last one. And we were content; while it was no masterpiece, it turned out to be much better than the anime. There were no quality cabbages, at least.
The translation was finished in a mere seven months, but it took us over a year to find a proper editor. Several people had volunteered, but either bid farewell soon after or just vanished without a trace. Then came Sheeta, saved the world, and everyone lived happily ever after.
But that's not the whole story. linktriforce007 and Zoom909 made remarkable contributions, cue the applause. In the meantime, I was busy hacking the engine, building tools, checking the scripts, editing images and organizing people. This required a lot time. We had all the time in the world, but it all seemed pointless every now and then. But then again, pretty much everything is pointless unless you're saving mankind et al. or in the process of understanding the universe, right?
Then let us savor this rather dull moment in history, when our little project have grown so much that it's almost finished. Let me share this with you, this product of effort and love, this partial translation patch.

Great news to see a patch out with so many routes. Now i hope someone out there can help me find the game.I have been trying to download the game but cant find it anywhere.I would appreciate if someone would point me in the direction of a place where i can download it.

Well this came outta nowhere for me. I didn't even realize someone was translating this lol.
tbh I'm a little disappointed that this isn't the R +18 version (can't help it, I like having some H-scenes along with my story) but its not gonna stop me from reading this LN.

I had a question, if I provide you with files of the Windows 7 version of Brighter than Dawning Blue, would you be able to make it compatible with your patches?

I myself always waited for the latter, to be honest. I won't blame you if you do that too. But even though we released this in order to get some feedback and minimize the errors in the actual patch, I can say that the routes included in the partial isn't going to be any different in the complete one. So, I think it boils down to how patient you are.

There's an active torrent for it at the moment, and it's pretty easy to find. If you're feeling particularly good, I think it's possible to buy it from Amazon as well. Just make sure you get the "Brighter than dawning blue" PC version, since the patch is only compatible with that.

I think the additional routes very well compensate the absence of H-scenes. At some point we were considering merging those scenes from the 18+ version with this one, and providing an option for it in the installer. But it turned out that version was using an older engine, built on a different script format. In other words, it was going to be much harder than a simple copy & paste job. We decided it wasn't worth the effort.

As far as I know, the patch is only compatible with Brighter than Dawning Blue's Regular Edition (2009-09-18). I wasn't able to get the Windows 7 Support Edition (2011-07-29), so I couldn't test it. Sure, if you can provide me with the files, I'll look into it.
As a side note, none of us had any problems with the Regular Edition on Windows 7 x32/x64, so we were under the impression that the "Windows 7 Support Edition" might be just an excuse to re-release the game as a marketing stunt.

Yeah but I tried to look for the game and amazon is only selling the Windows 7 support regular edition for the RRP (5,040 yen).
Anyway thanks a bunch, as soon as I get the Windows 7 version (in a couple weeks) I will share it with you so you can look unto it.

Sadly i live in a second/almost third world country and the only place i can buy anything in ebay and even that is rare.
Download is an only option,so il have to find that torrent.Any hint of where i could search would be usefull.

I understand. You may try searching NyaaTorrents' "Software - Games" section. I see two torrents there: One of them is the PS2 version with 0 seeders, and the other is the PC version with 24 seeders.

It's unfortunate the 18+ version uses an older engine/script format; if the original hacker(s) for the translation already found it not worth the effort it's unlikely anyone else will hack them in. Not that I personally care but having the option would be nice.

And thanks for doing the extended version, I rather read the two new routes (especially since Estel would be my second choice after Feena) than some lame H-scenes with the girls' unbearable cries/moans :D

It was a long road, but you've done magnificently to make it this far...
On a side note, do you still need more editors? I can help if you want, just contact me by e-mail if there's editing I can help with. I'm not a full native, but English is still my main language and I'm pretty good at editing and grammar, and I'm available all summer. I really want to play Midori and Estel's route T.T , so I thought that rather than just sitting around waiting and doing nothing I'd help with this project even if just a little.

I think we're doing fine right now in terms of editing, but there are other ways. Let us know if you encounter any errors in the partial patch, that also helps a lot.

So far there's been no major typos or mistakes I've encountered, just a few minor ones here and there which could be fixed easily. The only thing bothering me is the change of moon distance of 380,000 km -> 38,000 km in Sayaka's route, but you probably already know that.
Still, I'll be glad to help if you need me. Keep up the good work! I'll be waiting patiently for your next release :D
Hopefully you can release Midori's route next, but I guess that's just my wishful thinking... ^^; but hey, a man can dream right ;)

Just finished playing partial patch and I have no complaints and seriously I wouldn't mind paying for this one bit.
And also while you may be busy it would be a good idea to update the progress, well that was just my suggestion.

Why not just use the existing translations and add a separate patch for the other version (rather then adding in the content)?
Having not played the original I cannot tell how much content was cut out (could just be H-scences) to make it clean but I would prefer to play the original as the developer intended.

To be clear, there is no content cut out other than the H-scenes, and the absence of those scenes doesn't leave you in an awkward situation either. Also, the new content is huge: Each additional route is longer than most of the original ones, and together they make up about 23.5% of the whole game.
As for your first question, for the reason I mentioned in my previous comment, making a patch for the original game requires developing a new set of tools. While doing it the way you suggested probably requires less effort, I still think that it's not worth it. I understand that some people would rather have some more intimacy, but, uh, no.
That being said, there are also these new "Windows 7 Support Edition"s for both games. They are, to my understanding, released along with the latest version of BGI engine. Nier kindly provided me with the Brighter than Dawning Blue one, and I'm currently looking into making our patch compatible with it. If I succeed and once everything else is done, I might take a look at the original game too, if I can get my hands on it. No promises though.

We started this project without expecting monetary gain, and we intend to end it that way. I suggest buying something else that deserves your money. Or, you could always find another way to do good.
The reason I haven't updated the progress page for a while is because there hasn't been any editing done yet (Sheeta is currently busy translating Air). Our other QCer has gone through a couple of the remaining routes in the meantime though, so at least some progress has been made.

Thats good to know.
My main concern was the publisher cut-out a ton of content to make it all-ages like Moe-novel did with Wings.
I don't really care about the fact if it's 18+ or allages I just don't want to spend 10-12 hours on a story and after finishing it feeling like there were a bunch of missing parts left out.
Thats why as general rule I don't download edited versions of games and try in most cases to wait for director cut releases of movies and games.
since it's just H-scenes in this case I'll give it a try.

It's not too much work with respect to translation and editing, but it's still a lot. To be honest, the project is currently just waiting for me to get motivated to continue. So, lay the blame on me.
