Air

2011–2014
Visual novel hacking and QC

Air is Key’s second visual novel, released between Kanon and Clannad. I joined Winter Confetti for their English patch, doing tech stuff and QC.

A large part of the work was wrestling with the RealLive engine. This consisted of making the game run in window mode by default, adjusting the font size, fixing custom names, voice files, compile errors, word wrapping and a lot of encoding issues.

One thing that stuck in my mind was the bug where REALLIVE.EXE crashed when loading a game previously saved at a choice line. I spent days debugging the issue. Then I fixed it just by swapping two lines of code in rlBabel.kh

I also made the installer for the patch, and an interactive walkthrough with the option to hide upcoming choices, which hopefully helped some people avoid spoilers.
